Mark Jones
Hi, I am Mark.
My parents never owned a property when I was young, and this drove me to own a home before I was 30. Although I worked in finance, mortgages were not my specialty at the time, and I found the whole process daunting. How much can I borrow? Who has the best interest rate? How much deposit do I need?
Saving for a deposit wasn’t easy however I put away every spare penny and spoke to a mortgage broker about a loan. He was friendly, knowledgeable and put me at ease. It was great to know I had someone to turn to if there was something I didn’t understand.
At the age of 25 I brought my first home. It was a 2 bed first floor maisonette, and I used garden furniture from my parents as my first dining room table and chairs. I didn’t mind because I had achieved my goal in buying my own home before the age of 30.
I still remember the mortgage broker 20 years on. He not only guided me through the process from start to finish but he helped me put the insurance in place to support me in bad times should I ever need it. He inspired me to become a mortgage broker, I wanted to help people in the same way he helped me, and my passion remains the same to this day.

Jodie Layzell
Hi, my name is Jodie. I have worked at MDJ Mortgages since November 2022, prior to this I worked in Retail for over 20 years.
Since joining the team, I have learnt a lot, and am still learning every day. My favourite part of the job is when a client finally completes on their mortgage and moves into their new home!
I was born in Basingstoke and never left. I currently live in Old Basing with my partner, 2 children and a very cute (but large) dog called Cooper. I love music and going to live gigs, I went to Glastonbury for the first time in 2022 which was amazing and is now one of my favourite places on earth!!
I am excited to be working at MDJ Mortgages, the team are great to work with, so supportive and friendly. The client really always does come first, and the team go out of their way to help every single time ….. but that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun whilst we do it!!
Matt Cox
My name is Matt and have been at my current role with MDJ Mortgages full time since April 2022, having known Mark (MDJ) since the beginning of our secondary school years I was delighted when he approached me over the pandemic announcing his future plans for his company. Since then I’ve become a fully qualified mortgage advisor and have learnt a plethora of new skills including a whole new (mortgage) language I can now speak in!
Having lived all my life in the Basingstoke area I spend as much time as possible with my busy two teenage sons, however outside of responsibility I love to escape on mini breaks and adventures. Last year I wild camped and kayaked from Ben Nevis to Loch Ness over five days covering off somewhere near 80km.
2023 will no doubt prove to be a challenging year from all angles but I look forward to providing all clients with some great advice whether buying their first home or securing the best rate or outcome on their latest remortgage and I’m proud to be part of an ever growing company.
